ABOUT IRP

Ian Randle Publishers

Located in Kingston, Jamaica, Ian Randle Publishers is the Caribbean’s leading commercial publisher of academic and general interest (trade) books. We focus our publishing efforts in History, Sociology, Politics, Law and Anthropology as well as Art, Music and Cookery and have over 300 hundred titles in our catalogue.

Established in 1991, IRP was Jamaica’s and the English-speaking Caribbean’s first independent scholarly press. In 1991, the UWI Press was not yet in existence.

Despite the scepticism of both the academic community and the local book industry, IRP has grown and managed to stay the course for 26 years in a perilous industry which has seen traditional, small and independent publishing houses, and some not so small, swallowed up by giant conglomerates. Operating in a globalised environment but focusing on the Caribbean with its small, dispersed market and its minute academic community has been and continues to be challenging.

IRP’s survival has been due in no small part to its focus on innovation. From its inception, the company has constantly sought to find new ways to improve and expand the range of books it publishes and to reach markets globally. In so doing, IRP has set new standards of quality in the production of its books and placed the works of its authors into the international arena though a range of collaborative arrangements with companies in the US, Canada, UK and Africa. IRP authors invariably are given exposure and market reach internationally. By creating alliances and leveraging technology, IRP has made possible the publication of a number of books which would otherwise never have seen the light of day.

Who We Are

Ian Randle Publishers has also continued to thrive due in no small part to the tenacity and dynamism of its leaders, Founder, Ian Randle and Managing Director, Christine Randle.

Ian Randle

In a career that has so far spanned over 40 years, Ian Randle has published close to 400 books and has been recognised for his contribution to the development of publishing by being awarded the Silver Musgrave Award by the Institute of Jamaica, the Order of Distinction by the government of Jamaica, the Prince Claus Award and an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of the West Indies. Now the Chairman of Ian Randle Publishers having handed over the reins of the enterprise to his daughter Christine, Ian continues to be active in the publishing industry lending his expertise in Consultancies and work on special projects across the Caribbean region.

Christine Randle

Christine is an attorney-at-law by profession but a publisher by occupation. Building on a legal career which started in 1995, Christine joined IRP in 2000 and has leveraged her legal skills to streamline the company’s operations for greater efficiency and has successfully navigated the company through some of its most challenging and uncharted waters.

The business is also enhanced by the prudent financial management of Carlene Randle, a former banker and maintains its presence in the online marketplace through the efforts of Graeme Randle, the company’s head of distribution.

The management team is complemented by vibrant editorial, production and marketing departments, all of which work together to bring the best books “From the Caribbean to the World.”
