This unique anthology is made up of translations of creative works by hispanophone women of African descent including poetry, essays, short stories, excerpts of novels and personal narratives. In addition there are scholarly essays on these works by literary critics.

Among the writers included are Nancy Morejon and Excilia Saldana of Cuba, Julia Burgos and Mayra Santos-Febres of Puerto Rico and Chiqqui Vicioso and Aida Cartagena Portalatin of the Dominican Republic. Other contributors include critics such as Marvin A. Lewis editor of the Afro-Hispanic Review; Dellita Martin-Ogunsola, President of the College Language Association and Elba Birmingham-Pokorny, founder of the Afro-Hispanic Research Conference.
